Remeha brings hydrogen to life in Experience Centre

Demonstration and training facility helps professionals put hydrogen to the test.

The large-scale application of hydrogen for homes is one step closer with the opening of the Hydrogen Experience Centre in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, this week. The demonstration and training facility is a joint effort of independent certifying body Kiwa and grid operator Alliander, with the help of our Dutch business Remeha. Designed as a typical domestic home, the facility helps professionals learn all there is to know about making the switch to hydrogen.

In the Hydrogen Experience Centre, technicians and installers can familiarize themselves with everything involved in the transfer from natural gas to hydrogen. Furnished as a home, complete with kitchen, fusebox and heating system, the facility offers a unique training opportunity in a real-life setting. As project partner, Remeha has supplied our BDR Thermea 100% hydrogen boiler.

Practice makes perfect

Interest in hydrogen solutions is rising and the potential is enormous. But many more practical applications and widespread testing are needed on the road to success. This project presents an opportunity to test the performance of BDR Thermea's  ground-breaking Hydrogen boiler in practice, helping to build knowledge for future hydrogen projects.

“A successful and affordable energy transition is based on partnerships of this kind. By working together across sectors, we can help to bring the energy transition a little bit closer”, says Arthur van Schayk, Remeha's Managing Director.

The Hydrogen Experience Centre is the latest chapter in Remeha’s cutting-edge hydrogen journey. In 2019, our Dutch business introduced the world’s first 100% hydrogen boiler in a pilot project in Rozenburg and in 2019, Remeha conducted a pioneering project to adapt the existing natural gas network to carry hydrogen in Uithoorn.

BDR Thermea Group believes that there is no silver bullet on the road to the energy transition. Our future energy supply will rather be a mix of fuels, including hydrogen, electricity, and heat networks. Only when we work together across sectors and rely on different energy carriers, will we bring a net-zero carbon future closer.
